Born in Anchorage, Alaska, and now based in the DC metro area, my mixed-media paintings celebrate a unique black experience. Through the fluidity of water and pigment, I juxtapose chaos with symmetry and explore the connection between the birthplace and the motherland. My practice explores themes of racial identity, nature, and the complexities of the human existence.
Bio
I spent my childhood in Matanuska Valley, Alaska, where I admittedly took for granted the beautiful mountain views and wild rivers. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, I moved to the DC Metro area with my family. Here, I teach middle school and spend the vast majority of my free time watching my kids play soccer. I live with my two rescued pit-bulls (Kendrick and Lizzo), my husband, and three kids.
